Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers launched a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:
- Each team includes only eight human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for gamers looking for different methods to have fun with the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.
Player Reactions: Anger to Support
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else details everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Constructive Criticisms and Player Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the player base compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
