Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Against Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Astros winning the World Series in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden championship series after the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the final seventh game of the AL Championship Series.
Behind three runs to one, the star outfielder hit a three-run home run in the seventh, guiding the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the anticipated World Series.
"It's incredible for this squad, our city, the nation," Springer stated, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "This is such an unbelievable moment."
Springer has now slugged 23 October home runs, making him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another person anywhere that I'd prefer in that spot besides Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, are still the sole team yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" in the wake of his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but praised their performance throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. Sadly that we finished on the unsuccessful side of this one," he added.
Toronto's team won the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
